PacificSport Interior BC Board

Jack Miller
Chair

Jack Miller is an active coach and athlete. He coaches recreational and elite distance runners and has himself completed 53 marathons (all sub-three hours). He became involved with PacificSport because he believes that "helping to provide better opportunities for coaches and athletes is a very important component of the sport delivery system in BC and in Canada."

Jack is a graduate of UVic (B.Ed. and M.Ed.) and UBC (Education Doctorate) and is an assistant professor at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops where he teaches Physical Education Methods courses in the Bachelor of Education (Elementary) program as well as supervising student teachers. His volunteer commitments include the Coaches Association of BC, Past-President; and as a Board Member for the Kamloops Action for Healthy Communities Society.

Edith Fortier
Aboriginal Director

Edith Fortier's involvement as a participant and coach in basketball, slo-pitch and softball is what led to her involvement with PacificSport. In addition to wanting to advance/enhance Aboriginal youth involvement in sport and healthy lifestyles, she believes "everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy playing a sport and receiving the best coaching/training that is available."

A graduate of University College of the Cariboo (Recreation Management) and BCIT (Financial Management), Edith is a Youth and Adult Justice Worker with the Kamloops Indian Band. She was the North American Indigenous Games, Team BC Head Coach and her other volunteer commitments include Native Courtworkers & Counselling Association of BC, Director; and organizer of multi-sport clinics and tournaments for Aboriginal youth and adults.

Ken Olynyk
Appointed Director

While Ken Olynyk may be excited for all 18 sports that are going to benefit from the Kamloops facility expansion project, his heart is with basketball, a sport he played in University and went on to coach and administer at the provincial, national and international levels. Ken's belief in high-performance sport led him to be involved in PacificSport as he feels "strongly that we need to support sport if we want to gain the benefits of sport."

A graduate of Simon Fraser University and UVic, Ken is the Director of Athletics and Recreation at Thompson Rivers University. His volunteer involvement also includes being Vice-President of the BC College Athletic Association, Board Member of the 2006 BC Summer Games held in Kamloops and Coach with the Steve Nash Youth Basketball League.

Jenny John
Director

While Jenny John's favourite spectator sports are golf, curling and tennis, it was her background in competitive field hockey as a player, coach and umpire at the provincial and national level that drew her to PacificSport. "When I moved to Kamloops to retire I wanted to keep in touch with high-performance sport and share my provincial sport perspective."

A graduate of Nonington College of Physical Education (Physical Education), Jenny has been a teacher both in England and Canada and was the BC Women's Field hockey Provincial Coordinator for 21 years. She was the Field Hockey Sport Chair for the 2006 BC Games in Kamloops and served as Field Hockey Canada's technical advisor during the 2005 Canada Summer Games.

Peter Moyls
Director

Peter Moyls admits to not having a favourite sport, though he played varsity hockey for UBC for five years, and has coached both UBC hockey and Midget A at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame in Saskatchewan. Involvement with PacificSport is because involvement allows Peter "to be involved with other individuals who may share my vision of bringing the positive values back to sport."

A graduate of University of Toronto (PhD) and UBC (MPE, BPE), Peter is Chair of Physical Education and an Instructor in the Math and PE departments at Thompson Rivers University. Other volunteer activities include coaching hockey and baseball and leading NCCP courses in hockey.

Randy Nelson

Brian Olthuis
Director

Brian Olthuis started playing football in University before moving to coaching University ball and finishing coaching the U19 Canada Cup. Brian was led to PacificSport because he wanted to be involved in current sports issues and want to help develop sport (from funding to nutrition and training advancements).

A graduate of the University of Edmonton (BA Phys Ed, teaching certificate) Brian retired after teaching PE for 34 years and now enjoys coaching high school football. His other volunteer commitments include being a Director with Kamloops Sports Council, Director with Football BC, and a Member of the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame.

Barb Warsimage
Director

Barbara Warsimage enjoys watching all sports but has a soft spot for softball, a sport she played, coached and managed for nearly 40 years. Her reason for being involved with PacificSport? To "be part of helping hometown athletes train in Kamloops then go on to compete at elite events such as Nationals, Worlds and the Olympic Games."

As the manager/charge nurse at the Gaumont Residence Community Care Facility, Barbara is a certified Registered Psychiatric Nurse and graduate of the Riverview School of Nursing in Port Coquitlam. Her other volunteer activities include the Kamloops Sports Council (Treasurer) and the Kamloops Sport Council (Chair from 1991-2003).
