Tobacco Free Sports

Tobacco Free Sports is an international program initially developed by the WHO (World Health Organization) and adopted by its many partners including the Canadian Centre for Disease Control (CDC).

Tobacco Free Sports is a provincially funded project designed to further educate individuals and communities of the negative effects of tobacco use and its direct link to a decrease in sport performance.  Tobacco Free Sports strives to eliminate tobacco from our sports and our lives.

The Canadian Sport Centre Pacific and its PacificSport partners, together with the Province of British Columbia and its partners in the sport community,  will help British Columbians be the healthiest people in the world - Tobacco Free Sports will continue to encourage community involvement to sustain BC’s reputation as a leader and assist in making BC the healthiest jurisdiction to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

As the lead non-governmental organization responsible for the delivery of sport performance programs in British Columbia, CSC Pacific works with its partners at the national, provincial and regional levels to provide BC and Canadian athletes and coaches with every advantage to reach the podium and win medals for Canada.

Partnering with the Ministry of Health and ActNow to promote Tobacco Free Sports through its partner PacificSport centres (Fraser Valley, Interior BC, Okanagan, Northern BC, Sea to Sky, Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and Victoria), CSC Pacific will work with its registered athletes, coaches and key stakeholders, including partner sport organizations, to create further awareness of Tobacco Free Sports across BC.

Although the number of people who smoke tobacco in BC is on the decline, the number of youth using tobacco is not.  Tobacco Free Sports will encourage British Columbians to be the healthiest they can be and to make the choice to eliminate tobacco from our sports our lives.
