PacificSport Victoria hosts Training Camp for Canadian Mens Field Hockey Team  

The Canadian Men’s Field Hockey Team, ranked 13th in the world as a result of a 10th place finish at the 2008 Beijing Olympic & Paralympic Games, were training in Victoria this weekend in preparation for the 2009Pan American Cup. Canada will be one of nine countries competing at the Pan American Cup which will be held in Santiago, Chile March 5 to 15, 2009. The winning team will qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

The 22 member roster here for the training camp, included Team Captain Rob Short, brother Peter Short, Connor Meakin and Derrick Norton all of Victoria, plus Mark Erickson and Connor Grimes from Duncan.

During their time here, the Team trained at the Uvic Vikes Field Hockey Turf and played intersquad matches on Sunday and Monday. The Team also participated in the Times Colonist Book drive on Sunday morning at Admirals Thrifty Foods. 
  
 
 
Another Hole in One Event for PacificSport Victoria

The 4th Annual RBC Dominion PacifcSport Victoria Golf Classic at Olympic View Golf Course attracted over 20 local Olympians, including keynote speaker Adam Kreek; gold medalist in men's 8 rowing at the Beijing Olympics and 23 teams comprising of event sponsors and hole sponsors. It was a day filled with birdies, pars and the occasional lost ball; followed by a dinner, silent auction and prizes. For the second year in a row 1st prize goes to the UVIC Athletics, lead by Olympic rower Barney Williams.

PacificSport Victoria would like to thank everyone for their support and hope to see everyone on the golf course next year.

Veterans lead the way; But that doesn't mean automatic medals for Canada in Beijing
The post-swim ice pack on his neck might logically be considered a concession to the aches and pains of age. Rick Say is, after all, the grand old man of Canadian swimming at 29. Assuming he gets that proper fit and his neck responds, the well-spoken Victoria native will be counted on to be a stabilizing influence for younger swimmers headed to Beijing. Olympian-sized moments of reckoning await Kirsten Sweetland of Victoria and Paul Tichelaar of Edmonton on June 8 amid the shimmering waters of English Bay and towering condos of the West End. Triathlete Whitfield takes season-opener in Japan

Canadian triathlete Simon Whitfield opened his World Cup season with a bang in Japan.
